NB RAIL

NB Rail is the group that coordinates the notified bodies in the railway sector.

Notified bodies are independent organisations responsible for assessing the conformity of products and systems within the scope of interoperability Directives for trans-European high-speed (Directive 96/48/EC) and conventional (Directive 2001/16/EC) rail systems.

NB Rail is a forum for:

• Sharing experiences and exchanging points of view on assessment procedures for conformity as a way of improving the understanding and application of the interoperability Directives.
• Drawing up drafts and issuing technical recommendations on subjects relating to the assessment of conformity in the railway sector.
• Collaborating with the European standardisation bodies.
• Drawing up reports on technical aspects related to assessment procedures.
• Analysing Commission documents together with other information relating to railway interoperability.
• Analysing any doubts or problems that may arise during the practical application of the interoperability Directives.
